Chaos Engine

The four members of Manatark all come from Estonia. I am not familiar with any other band from this country. If the class of this band is typical for other Estonian bands, that's promising. But... that's probably not the case. Bands like Manatark are one of a kind.

The music of this band is by them self described as blackened extreme metal. And this term covers the overtones precisely. Pitch-black complex metal is alternated with atmospheric synthesizer melodies. The music evokes a frightening atmosphere. The band is very capable in creating a smooth and flowing current in their music, besides their complexity. Fascinating structures, tight rhythms, heavy riffs, subtle melody-lines, in short a very interesting work.

Besides 'Chaos Engine' this band has produced a demo 'Roosteitk' in 1998 and their debut 'Viimanegi Veri' in 2000. I am not familiar with any of these works, but I have downloaded a song from their debut. It sounds meager and thin, not at all like any of the songs on 'Chaos Engine'. Manatark has taken a giant leap forward with this their follow-up. The production is magnificent and the songs are too. Very much worth the effort!
