Loits
Must album

Three years after the Vere Kutse Kohustab record, Estonian sextet Loits are back with their third full-length album, Must Album. Stylistically an amalgam of raw, traditional black metal and rock (which the band calls “Flack ‘n Roll,”), Must Album presents an astonishing musical landscape. Although the lyrics are performed entirely in Estonian, those of us who don’t speak the language are not excluded emotionally; we can easily interpret Loits’ themes of patriotism, historical pride and an attachment to truthfully communicating various human experiences. The production is warm, with the feeling of not having been touched up tremendously, yet remarkably, all the melodies and instruments are clear. Subdued keyboards and the occasional unfrilled clear singing amongst the growls only enhance a prevailing sense of grief throughout the record. Must Album (which translates as “Black Album”) has a lot to offer while remaining somewhat unassuming.
