Must Missa
Ma Ei Talu Valgust

After a two year delay, line up changes and a change of label half way through the recording, Must Missa's debut album finally sees the light of day. Though plagued by technical difficulties, including the sound engineer inadvertently deleting a track that was meant to appear on this album, "Ma Ei Talu Valgust" still sounds as great to me as the first demo versions did in 2002. The bands have progressed from the Darkthrone-esque thrashings of their demo to a more measured, though no less necro, black/thrash onslaught - a style which the band amusingly dub "Reich'n'Roll". Highlights are the menacing opener "Kõnge Tuhaks", the pounding "Koolita Kristlast Kirvega", and the epic black/thrash attack of "Jääst". High contender for album of the year, but then, what did you expect me to say? An essential listening experience from a band I personally rank as one of the best in the genre.
