Tharaphita and Manatark are two Estonian metal forces that I tend to mix up. It’s not just the similarity in their names, as in a matter of fact the bands share some members as well.
However, Tharaphita’s conceptual aim stems from the pagan heart and has its musical roots deep down in the 80’s metal traditions. All the three songs of „Hundiseadus” excel in straight and honest metal. The opening tune „Metsades, soodes, rabades” and the title song are strudily mangling heavy rockers with tangible atmosphere. In between them „Hailstormer” goes to show the more aggressive side of the band.
It sounds like the songs were grown ripe in the same vat with Running Wild and Celtic Frost, but the band must be merited for their own strong vision and craft also. Don’t think of rosy coloured pagan romanticism, Tharaphita stands straight and bravehearted for pure fucking metal!
