Legion Estland

„Ei Kahetse Midagi”, the debut demo of this Estonian outfit was something that was lodged in my cassette deck for a good amount of time. „Legion Estland” is one part of the band’s seven inch vinyl serie and continues the triumphal crest of national romantic metal that was brilliantly set off rolling with that, I dare say classic, demo.
The songs „Vanade Leegionäride Laul” and „Furor Aesticus” are steelhard eruptions of grippy, almost hymnic metal that makes the impression right at one shot.
Most certainly you see Loits tagged as a black metal band, but there’s much more to it. Folk and rock n’roll are their accessorial elements they say temselves. And I have to consent to that, just listen to that bass-driven groove and off-the-wall keyboards in „Furor Aesticus”. What a fuckin’ combination! Loits possess the ability to vent out their spleen with draught of hateful metal just as well as they build darkly calm and bitter atmosphere with their music.
Other than that, the EP includes a short, noise/industrial-like intermezzo and a cover of another Estonian outfit Tharaphita.
Loits’ throughout and frank patriotic concept may bring up many opinions and misconceptions about the band. Lyrics are partially written by actual Estonian veterans and in accordance with the general concept, Loits enjoy appearing in war time sceneries. Still, brute force of their neck breaking metal is enough to foil all doubts. There’s nothing half-hearted in Loits.
