Distorted Horizon

The music world is blessed to receive the gifts bestowed by Estonia’s finest Progressive Metal band, Echosilence. The word Progressive is all too often associated with mindless wank, but Echosilence’s music is distinctly heartfelt and emotional.

This may have been my first encounter with Echosilence, but the Jazz Fusion influenced “Views On Views” changes this. Slightly soothing and arguably angelic, this Estonian 5 piece comes across as fiercely intelligent. Yet “Distorted Horizon” soon reveals the true majestic beauty of the force that is Echosilence.

Vocalist Kadri is certainly the standout point on this fantastic ep. Her voice is majestic, epic and beautiful. This might sound cliché, but words can simply not express her soaring melodies.

Elsewhere, of course, we get that unique Jazz fusion grove that only Echosilence can execute with such ease. The obvious example here is “Distorted Horizon”. The track builds from a warped jazz introduction into a song of epic proportions.

Throughout the mini albums 4 tracks, many surprises creep up during its duration. Beware; this is not for the close-minded. Yet for those among us who crave melodic, progressive and beautiful metal. A whole sea of delights awaits you.
