Nihilistikrypt
Required Sacrifices

Quite surprised am I from the promotional work of this Estonian death metal band, everything around their debut demo CD release is just professional done. Of course, I still bang my head under the flag of Xerox-styled bands, so it doesn't make a big difference to me either compared to this more exaggerating presentation, yet it's not to be ignored somehow. I think the last death metal band I had the chance to listen to from there was Neglected Fields, so lets find out if Nihilistikrypt are as good as them.

One major difference that people who know NF could easily imagine is that Nihilistikrypt aren't that technical. Perplexing things, the front/back covers and the tracklist of this release gives the impression of gory death metal, which is not. The music follows a "lighter" direction, a more metal one I'd say, not that twisted or dark. Unquestionably there are some blasts here and there, fast tempos as well, but there's melody as well, bringing to mind some of the recent Swedish forces, while the vocals follow a guttural path of possession. The five songs included (the others are intro/outro, an acoustic plus an instrumental one) are listenable but to my preference matching (and in general, best ones) are "I Hate Everything" and "Rebellion Against Thee", with the last one combing both traces of melody and aggression. I'll be strict with this one, although it surely outnumbers many of those so-called death metal wimps out there (including many annoying blast-beating frenzied bands who think that only the fastest survive!). Keep an eye on them.

Oh, the atmospheric outro reminds me of something!!!

6,5/10
