Primeval Force

In recent years there is a definite rise in bands hailing from countries formerly situated behind the iron curtain. This too is the case Estonians Tharaphita and 'Primeval Force' is my introduction to their music. Their dwelling in the underground for over a decade definitely shows from this release. It sounds professional and balanced and you can tell they are very experienced. Tharaphita brings melodic pagan black metal. Folk influences are abundant as with some symphonic elements. Månegarm springs to mind together with Skyforger. In fact, Tharaphita tends to sound very much like a mix of these bands. The songs are quite solid but flow well. Main setback however is the singing, I'm not keen on vocals that are in between grunting and normal sounding, a bit hardcore-ish so to say. On top of that, there are some clean vocals too, but they don't come across convincingly either. People willing to set those hesitations aside can look forward to hearing this.
