Required Sacrifices

With an entertaining name (for the Finns) Nihilistikrypt present current Estonian death metal in quite a complex way for a music fan. In a 9-track package one can find besides plain and simple death metal some more playful tunes, even amonamarthlike guitar melodies haven’t been forgotten. Some songs could easily be some of the early 90’s death metal, while the others remind more of the 00’s modern bands.

The tracks are well played and nicely executed, quite like a full album, but the composition and songs need much polishing. It has its good moments, but the songs aren’t compelling and don’t have this special punch in them. The whole cd is bursting with mediocrity, though for a demo it’s pretty good.

The sound is definitely demo-like, but otherwise not so bad at all. The sound is clear and catchy, but it lacks this desired kick and power. The growling vocals are pretty good, but nothing very special and don’t differ much from other growls of the kind. So one has to admit that for a full album it’s just a mediocre record, but for a demo it’s quite alright.

The demo looks like a proper cd-release with decent cover and in jewel case box, just that it’s pressed on a black disc, which is also used for Playstation games. So it might not work properly in all cd players. Despite this small technical matter this demo can be recommended without doubt to all who feel interested in Estonian death metal.
