Ei Kahetse Midagi

Loits are a black metal band from Estonia and judging by their lyrics, image, and logo- this band is artistic and intelligent. They formed in 1996 and despite several obstacles, including the death of guitarist A. Kalm and label problems, they persevered. The issued three demos and a pair of e.p.'s (2002's Legion Estland and 2003's Raiugem Ruunideks) before coming out with their debut full length (actually demo recordings), Eli Kahetse Midagi in 2003. That same year they released a v.h.s. video and another e.p., Meeste Muusika, before signing with Ledo Takas Records for their proper full length debut, Vere Kutse Kohustab.

Listening to Vere Kutse Kohustab I am reminded of Satyrion's great and often forgotten opus, Dark Medieval Times. Loits play black metal but have folk elements and even straight out (think Khold but much better). Other bands in a similar black metal style are Finnish bands like Moonsorrow and Finntroll. Don't get me wrong Loits is original, but describing them necessitates some comparisons. Vocalist Lembetu has a unique style and he's not afraid to explore his capabilities as evidenced by the effect laden "Voitluslipp" or the bizarre sounding "Raiugem Ruunideks."

Some may enjoy the rock 'n roll influence, especially the Motorhead meets black metal sound of "Eluruun." Loits are a pleasant surprise.
